Thank you for visiting my website! If you told me ten years ago that I would be the founder of a personal finance website and a #1 bestselling author, I wouldn’t have believed you. The truth is I never even thought I would be successful with my own personal finances, much less be in a position to write about them.

Personal finance used to mean how much money I would have each month to spend going out with friends, taking a vacation now and then, and having a few hundred dollars for emergencies. “Saving” was accumulating just enough money to either buy something or go on a trip. Investing wasn’t even a consideration, that was only for rich people and professional stock traders I thought.

Not surprisingly, my bank account was usually in the hundreds–closer to zero than a thousand. I was the classic paycheck to paycheck story. One missed paycheck and I would be in legitimate financial trouble. Student loans, a car payment, and on and off credit card debt were monthly expenses I could not seem to shake. Even worse, I thought the way I was living was normal and just the way it was supposed to be.

In my mid to late thirties, something clicked. I don’t know if it was the new books on personal finances I was reading, personal finance podcasts I suddenly couldn’t get enough of, or the new found responsibility of having a child. Something happened though, and money began to make sense. My wife and I went from saving almost nothing every month to saving several hundred dollars without much trouble. That several hundred moved to $1,000 a month and all of a sudden we had real money in our bank account. We were no longer paycheck to paycheck and it felt good to be in control of our money.

Once we got out of the paycheck to paycheck hamster wheel and established a good sized emergency fund, our personal finances really took off. Every pay raise was automatically deposited into an investment account before we had a chance to spend it. In a few short years, we were investing more than half of our income, mostly in residential real estate. We continue to automate our investments today because it works. Everything I write about on this website and in my book is something I have been successful with.

My money story is repeatable and easy to follow. I’ve never hit it big with a blue chip stock, nor did I marry into money or receive a large inheritance. On this site, I’ll be sharing how I went from barely scraping by, to investing over half my income. I’ll dispel the common money myths that you have to be born into money, receive a large inheritance, get lucky in the stock market, or win the lottery to build wealth. With the right mindset and actions, you can change your financial life, build wealth, and achieve financial harmony.

I created this website to help you succeed. I unnecessarily went through many years of financial struggles, mostly due to a lack of education and a faulty mindset. I lacked a basic understanding of personal finance and paid the price for it. My goal is to help you avoid some of the financial struggles I went through. A little bit of knowledge goes a long way.

Over the years I’ve learned that personal finance is really not that complicated. It’s all about creating a new mindset and following basic financial principles. Spend less than you earn, avoid lifestyle creep, don’t try and keep up with the Joneses, be a value-based spender, actively find ways to increase your income, pay yourself first, and many more that I’ll be writing about.

Please reach out to me with your stories and questions! Tell me about your mindset around money, best piece of advice you’ve ever received, or anything else about yourself! Contact me at Aaron@cashuncomplicated.com.
